UCC is Community orientated and committed to adapt and provide services to best fit the needs of the individuals and community.
Our history
In 1951, Dr. Hilbert Wassernan Ehrlich felt that there was a great need for people who could not afford psychiatric care on a private basis to be able to receive that care. His ideology was to bring competent psychiatric care to these people in the Bronx county. Dr. Ehrlich was in the forefront of community based psychiatric/mental health care. He was also one of the pioneers in New York State in providing quality clinical treatment on a sliding fee basis. University Consultation Center continues to operate with the philosophy that comprehensive care and treatment is best obtained through establishing and maintaining linkages with other support service providers. We are extremely proud of the reputation we have earned over the years as a referral/provider source for many physicians, schools, Child Welfare Administration, the courts, hospitals, clinics, etc.
As the needs of the community changed, we expanded our services and offered further help to adults and families in the community. To that end Dr. Ehrlich established one of the first outpatient mental health clinics. In 1961 the organization was incorporated as a NYS not-for-profit, 501 (c) (3) corporation. UCC is committed to providing affordable, quality, behavioral health, residential, case management, rehabilitative and support services to special needs populations.
